We collect minimal information necessary to deliver and sync your reading notes:

Account Information: When you register an account, we collect your email address and an encrypted password hash. If you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your verified Google account email address.
User-Generated Content: We store the highlights, text selections, code snippets, annotations, page titles, and source URLs that you explicitly capture using the extension.

2. How We Use Information

We use your information strictly for the following purposes:

To sync your highlights and topic files across your browser instances.
To authenticate your session securely.
To allow exporting of your notes to Markdown.

3. Data Protection & Sharing

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data or captured highlights to third parties or advertising networks. Your data is processed securely via HTTPS and stored in encrypted databases.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

You retain full ownership of your data. You can delete individual highlights, topic files, or collections directly from the extension sidepanel at any time. If you wish to delete your account completely, contact us at support@readingcompanion.app.
